Chassis & Suspension

Built locally

Every Elross caravan starts with one of the most critical components — the chassis.

It’s not something you see once the build is complete, but it defines how the caravan performs, how it tows, and how well it holds up over time.

At Elross, we don’t outsource this process. This allows us full control over how your caravan will perform on the black top and out in the bush.

  • Our engineering approach is driven by how the caravan will actually be used. From off-road articulation to off-grid load requirements, every chassis is developed to perform in real-world conditions — not just meet baseline standards.

  • Our engineering approach is driven by how the caravan will actually be used. From off-road articulation to off-grid load requirements, every chassis is developed to perform in real-world conditions — not just meet baseline standards.

  • All chassis are fabricated right here in Western Australia using Australian-made materials. This gives us full oversight of quality, consistency and workmanship, while ensuring every build meets the conditions it was designed for.

  • Towing performance is a primary consideration in every design. From centre of gravity to suspension integration, each chassis is developed to deliver stability, control and confidence across a wide range of terrain and driving conditions.

Known performance

Using Australian-made Ausmills steel ensures consistent strength and reliability. Known material properties allow us to engineer with confidence and maintain high standards across every chassis we produce.

Long-Term Durability

Working with locally sourced steel means we understand how the material behaves under load. This allows for more accurate engineering and predictable performance in real-world conditions.

Consistent material quality

Material quality plays a major role in longevity. By using proven Australian steel, we reduce the risk of premature wear and ensure the chassis maintains its integrity over extended use.

Built for Real conditions

Australian touring conditions are demanding.

Corrugations, uneven terrain, long-distance travel and off-grid loads all place constant stress on a caravan.

That’s why our approach goes beyond simply meeting minimum standards..

  • Off-road travel introduces constant movement, vibration and impact. Our chassis are designed to absorb and manage these dynamic loads over time, reducing fatigue and improving long-term durability.

  • A well-designed chassis minimises how forces travel through the caravan. This helps protect cabinetry, plumbing and electrical systems from premature wear caused by vibration and uneven terrain.

  • Structural integrity is critical in off-road conditions. Our designs focus on strength and rigidity to prevent flex, cracking or long-term fatigue, ensuring the caravan holds together over years of use.

Designed & Tested

  • Every chassis is designed to meet Australian regulatory requirements through ROVER. This ensures compliance while still allowing us to maintain our focus on performance and durability.

  • FEA allows us to simulate stress and load conditions before fabrication. This helps identify potential weaknesses early and refine designs to ensure optimal strength and long-term performance.

  • Elross believes in not only strong structural design, but also a chassis that is constructed to benefit the long term. Flat floor designs are not part of the Elross philosophy even though it does equate to easier manufacturing.

Every chassis we produce is supported by proper engineering processes.

This allows us to:

  • identify stress points early

  • refine designs before fabrication

  • ensure the chassis performs under real-world conditions

What you’re seeing here isn’t guesswork — it’s validated engineering.

Australia’s Premium Air suspension systems

Premium Off-grid solution.

If your looking for the very best possible suspension to go under your Elross the ECXR range of vans comes standard with Cruisemaster™ ATX airbag suspension. Designed from the ground up from Cruisemaster’s in-house engineering team, this system screams performance wherever you look.

ATX suspension is built for a lifetime of adventures with its key components being able to be upgraded as your needs change.

  • Choose from Hydraulic Disc or the traditional Electric Drum braking systems. Note Bosch ABS only currently available on Drum systems*

  • ATX airbag ATM ranges from 3000kg on single axle models to 4500kg on dual axle models, ensuring you are covered in every scenario.

  • a heavy duty design focused on premium performance the ATX suspension works on key improvements to design and longevity thanks to years of testing and real world development.

  • the ATX has been designed with the use of advanced M46 RRS shocks, providing advanced dampening. Upgrade to the larger M60 version by asking to spec ATX unleashed.

  • The design of the Airbag is a sleeve over type, allowing for added protection in harsh conditions

The Offroad Tourer choice.

No longer considered just an “Off-Road” system, Cruisemaster™ XT freestyle takes it’s design queue’s from all terrain types to ensure you can achieve the right ride no matter the terrain making it a legitimate all-terrain system.

Cruisemaster™ XT freestyle is the most versatile All terrain system available on the market today, giving you more options to build the perfect suspension for your needs. the XT freestyle is available on our ECX range of vans.

  • Choose from Hydraulic Disc or the traditional Electric Drum braking systems. Note Bosch ABS only currently available on Drum systems*

  • If your looking for a well rounded system and don’t want the added weight, the XT freestyle blends all terrain capability without the added weight.

  • G40 twin shocks come standard on Elross ECX builds

  • the XTF freestyle arm design comes with a Pillow top airbag type. simple in design and operation, the design allows for reliability and predictability.

Next Gen Air control

Introducing Cruisemaster’s™ Body Control System, the system behind their Next Gen. Air Suspension.

The Cruisemaster™ Body Control System (BCS) isn’t just introducing new air features and technologies to the world of caravans. They have designed a modular system that provides a platform for a range of advanced technologies.

  • Control the BCS via the compact control panel or download the Bluetooth Connected Mobile App. for additional flexibility when using the system.

While the system has convenient over-the-air updates, it does not rely on an internet signal for regular operation.

  • Manual

Allowing for manual adjustment of the left and right sides of the system.

    Drive Mode

Adjust to the correct travel height with the push of a button to ensure the perfect ride every time.

    Horizon Levelling

Designed to provide the perfect set up at camp Horizon Levelling will both level across the van but also from the front to rear.

  • Utilising a wheel speed sensor, this advanced system will detect once the vehicle has reached a travel speed and automatically adjust to Drive Mode to protect the caravan from travelling at a compromised height.

This feature is built into all systems and is activated when a WSS is detected and software is updated via the mobile app.

  • The intelligence of the Cruisemaster™ BCM allows for onboard diagnostics to help fault find system concerns.

  • With such control at your finger tips, be the envy of all your friends and other caravanners as you effortless set up or set off on your journey at the press of a button.

Built To Last

  • Chassis are coated to protect against corrosion and environmental exposure. This is especially important for off-road use, where conditions can be harsh and unpredictable.

  • Key elements such as water tanks and mounting systems are installed early in the process. This ensures proper integration and reduces the need for modifications later in the build.

  • These preparation stages ensure the chassis is ready for the demands of real-world travel, improving durability and reliability over the lifespan of the caravan
