Off Grid Systems Built for Real-World Touring
Power, Water and system integration designed for reliability, efficiency and usability - not just headline numbers.
⚡Strong Foundational Electrical Systems
Our off-grid electrical systems are designed around balance, not just battery size. Using proven Red-Arc power management, quality wiring and efficient integration, we deliver reliable performance for off-road caravans in real Australian conditions without relying on inflated specifications.
🛡️Protection measures & Integration
All electrical and water systems are integrated into the caravan structure with protection in mind. From routing and shielding to mounting and accessibility, every component is positioned to withstand off-road conditions while maintaining long-term reliability and serviceability
💧Capable Water Systems
Water systems are engineered for practical off-grid use, combining flexible tank configurations with efficient pumps and optional UV filtration. This approach reduces unnecessary complexity while ensuring reliable water supply for extended remote travel across Australian conditions.
🔋Appliance Efficiency
Off-grid performance depends on more than storage capacity. We prioritise energy-efficient appliances and system design to reduce power demand, allowing smaller, well-balanced systems to perform effectively without overloading batteries or relying on excessive solar input.
ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS
-
A well-designed off-grid system is built around quality components, correct wiring and efficient integration. Minimising voltage drop and ensuring clean system layout delivers more reliable performance than simply increasing battery size or solar capacity on paper. This is where we focus our efforts to ensure you are maximizing system performance. We run two sized systems, Our off-grid package, which is STD on all ECX models and also our premium Off-grid package Plus which doubles much of the capacity across the board.
-
Battery capacity is often advertised as a headline figure, but usable performance depends on quality and system integration. Higher-grade lithium systems deliver more consistent output under load, ensuring reliable power in real-world off-grid conditions. Choosing the right battery and its outputs are key and using Mictronix Australian made Batteries ensures our systems are optimized.
-
Solar performance depends on more than total wattage. Correct panel configuration, along with proper matching and array design, ensures efficient charging and maximises energy capture across varying conditions.
-
Charging capability must be aligned with the overall system design. Oversizing inputs without proper integration can reduce efficiency. A balanced system ensures consistent charging performance without placing unnecessary strain on components. We align all of our charging systems with industry leaders - RED ARC.
“A well-designed electrical system is not about maximising numbers — it’s about delivering reliable power in real-world conditions.”

WATER SYSTEMS
-
Off-grid capability isn’t just about carrying more water — it’s about how efficiently it’s used. Well-designed systems balance capacity with accessibility, weight and practicality, ensuring reliable supply without overloading the caravan or complicating the setup.
-
UV filtration systems allow for safer use of water from a wider range of sources. This reduces the need to carry excessive volumes, improving weight efficiency while maintaining confidence in water quality during extended off-grid travel

Overly complex plumbing systems can introduce unnecessary failure points. By minimising pumps, fittings and components, we create a more reliable and user-friendly setup that performs consistently in off-road conditions and is easier to maintain over time.
-
Item dWe offer flexible tank configurations to suit different travel requirements, including setups such as 2x120L, 2x160L or mixed combinations. Theres even the ability for larger vans to hold up to 500L of storage if required. This allows customers to tailor water capacity without compromising balance, weight distribution or system efficiency.
Elross Water Technology
Built to handle the Conditions
Routing of Wiring & Services
Every electrical and plumbing service is carefully planned and executed to ensure long-term reliability in harsh off-road environments. Wiring and pipework are neatly routed, securely fastened, and isolated from potential damage points. We utilise sealed bulkhead fittings when passing through the floor to mitigate water and dust ingress—critical for true off-grid capability. Additional protection is achieved through K-Flex industrial foam insulation combined with PVC shielding, creating a robust barrier against vibration, abrasion, and rock strikes commonly encountered on corrugated and remote tracks.
Under Body Protection measures
The underbody is one of the most exposed areas when travelling off-road, which is why we engineer comprehensive protection systems to safeguard critical components. Heavy-duty bash plates and protective guards are strategically installed to shield plumbing, wiring, and structural elements from impact damage. These components are designed to absorb and deflect hits from rocks, ruts, and uneven terrain without compromising the integrity of the van. The result is a durable foundation that maintains performance and reliability even in the most demanding Australian conditions
Designed specifically for Australian outback conditions, gibber guards play a critical role in protecting your caravan from sharp, high-velocity stone strikes. These guards are positioned to deflect rocks thrown up by tow vehicles, preventing damage to vulnerable areas such as pipework, tanks, and underbody components. Built from durable materials and integrated into the overall protection system, gibber guards help reduce wear and tear over time. This ensures your caravan maintains its structural integrity and appearance, even after extended travel on gravel and remote tracks.

Appliance Selection & System Efficiency
Modern off-grid capability is no longer limited by system size alone. The way appliances are selected and used plays a critical role in overall performance, allowing well-designed systems to deliver greater efficiency, flexibility and real-world usability.
-
Off-grid performance isn’t just about system capacity — it’s about how energy is used. Selecting efficient appliances reduces overall demand, allowing the system to operate more effectively without relying on oversized batteries or excessive solar input.
-
12V compressor fridges are a key part of an efficient off-grid setup. Compared to traditional options, they offer lower power consumption and consistent performance, helping reduce load on the electrical system while maintaining reliable operation in varying conditions.
-
Many customers now choose to minimise fixed internal cooking appliances. Portable induction cooktops provide flexibility while reducing constant power and gas demand, allowing energy use to be managed more efficiently depending on how the caravan is being used.
-
Modern diesel combi systems such as the Truma D6 or ECP Hotbox allow water and air heating without relying heavily on gas. This improves overall system efficiency while reducing the need to carry additional gas, simplifying off-grid travel.
-
Advancements in battery and power management technology now allow air conditioning to operate for longer periods off-grid. When properly integrated, this provides greater comfort without compromising overall system balance.
-
Lighting can contribute significantly to overall power usage. Strategic placement and efficient LED systems reduce unnecessary draw while maintaining usability, ensuring the caravan remains functional in a range of conditions without excessive energy consumption.
What Makes Elross Different

Quality Supply Partnerships
Rather than chasing the largest battery or solar figures, or the biggest Water holding capacity - we focus on balance. A well-designed system delivers better performance, improved efficiency and greater reliability than one built purely around headline numbers.
Balanced, not oversized
Quick Answers Guide
-
A well-designed off-grid system balances battery capacity, solar input, charging capability and appliance efficiency. The best systems are not the largest, but those designed to work efficiently together in real-world conditions.
-
Battery requirements depend on usage, but most well-designed systems between 300Ah and 600Ah are sufficient for extended off-grid travel when paired with efficient appliances and properly configured solar input.
-
Not necessarily. Solar performance depends on panel quality, configuration and system integration. A well-designed system with efficient panels can outperform larger systems that are poorly configured or mismatched.
-
Advances in lithium battery and power management systems now allow air conditioning to operate for longer periods off-grid. Performance depends on system design, battery capacity and how the system is used and of course the time of day and time of year.
-
Diesel heating systems such as combi units reduce reliance on gas while improving efficiency. They provide reliable hot water and heating, making them well suited to extended off-grid travel. This does not mean they are better than Gas, however they provide Off-grid caravans with less regulatory issues for ventilation and space heating requirements, positioning Diesel units as a viable alternative for Off-Grid caravans.
-
Appliance efficiency plays a major role in overall system performance. Lower power consumption reduces demand on batteries and solar, allowing the system to operate more effectively without needing excessive capacity.
